Softball
Complex Building
[
Atlanta, Georgia ]
This 164 acres park is located at the intersection
of I-285 and Jonesboro Road (Highway 54). The terrain is rolling
and heavily wooded. The park shall provide a year-round recreation
program and shall have a community center, gymnasium, swimming
pool and tennis courts. In addition, it has a sports complex
consisting of four lighted softball fields with an overlay
of two full size football fields, multi-use courts and a track
and field area with an overlay of a rugby field.
The large forested areas will remain in their natural state
catering to the passive recreational needs such as nature
trails, picnicking, day camp activities and possibly a bird
sanctuary. The park is conceived as a regional park and also
serves the adjoining neighborhoods, thus will help alleviate
over-crowded conditions in other city parks.
Williams creek traverses the park in north-south direction
at the center of this site and sets a natural boundary for
active sports complex and the community park. Pedestrian walkways
and a pedestrian bridge will connect both sides of the creek.
Historical area to the north shall be undisturbed and only
used for natural trails and picnicking.
First phase of park development would consist of four lighted
softball fields with back stops and dugouts and an overlay
of two full size football fields, multi-use courts, and parking
for 240 cars.
